The year-end Bangkok Motor Exposition will allow visitors a glimpse of the prototype for a modernised version of the Scuderia Bizzarrini P538, designed in Thailand.

A version of the Italian Scuderia Bizzarrini P538 will be built entirely in Thailand with help from the Thai company Cobra International.

The organiser, Inter Media Consultant Co, said the unique racing car of Italian descent would be one of the highlights of the motor expo to be held from Nov 29 to Dec 10 at Impact Muang Thong Thani.

The prototype is being jointly designed by Italian and Thai teams. Apichart Phumsook of Silpakorn University is the leader of the Thai designers, said Praphong Maicharoen, vice-chairman of the event. The new Bizzarrini, originally created by engineer and designer Giotto Bizzarrini, will be made almost entirely of carbon fibre and will be assembled in Thailand by Cobra International Co, a Thai company specialising in manufacturing high-end boards for windsurfing, surfing, kiteboarding and wakeboarding.

An industry source said Cobra was working on the chassis for the car.

The Bizzarrini will have a 7.0-litre Corvette LS7 V8 engine providing 500 horsepower for the car, with production to be overseen by the race car specialist Galmer Engineering.

Mr Praphong said only 100 Bizzarrini P538s would be assembled during a four-year period. The final price has not been announced.
